EXPANDED CHILDREN’S ROLES IN 2017 NUTCRACKER
SALT LAKE CITY – July 5, 2017 – In preparation for an exciting and monumental modernization of The Nutcracker being unveiled in December, Ballet West is seeking more children than ever before to bring this iconic production to life. More than 330 roles for boys and girls, including nine new cast members, will be needed when the Company holds auditions on Saturday, August 19, at the Jessie Eccles Quinney Ballet Centre in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ballet West will unveil spectacular new sets, sparkling costumes, and dazzling special effects on December 2, when the longest-running production of The Nutcracker opens once again at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre. With these updates, Artistic Director Adam Sklute will introduce additional roles for taller boys and girls as mice and puppeteers and adding an additional party boy to the cast. These changes will maintain Mr. C’s beloved choreography while giving more opportunities for children of all ages and sizes.
This audition is for dancers, girls and boys, who are in the 3rd grade or 8 years of age and older by September 1, 2017. At least one year of ballet training is recommended. Guardians can pre-register their dancer (girls 4’0”-5’11”, gymnasts 4’0”-4’4”, and boys 4’0”-6’0”) at BalletWest.org Wednesday, July 12 through Thursday, August 17. Dancers must pre-register online and then attend a formal registration at a Ballet West Academy location to be measured by height and given a time for their audition on Saturday, August 19. All roles are cast by height, and each height will have a specific audition time.
