Swan Lake Tutu Opportunity Drawing!
Ballet West is excited to announce an Opportunity Drawing for a Swan Lake costume used in Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” music video. The costume will be on display during the Swan Lake performances at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre, February 6-15, and proceeds from the drawing will benefit Ballet West.
In a YouTube video about the costumes, Taylor Swift said of the Swan Lake costume, “This is definitely my favorite costume of the entire shoot so far, this amazing ballerina outfit, and they’re all wearing it, and they look so beautiful.” Swift’s team rented eight costumes from Ballet West and the video now has over half-a-billion views on YouTube. The song won Favorite Song at the 2015 People’s Choice Awards, and also received nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
Adam Sklute, Ballet West Artistic Director said, “What people don’t always know here in Salt Lake is that Ballet West’s Costume Department, headed by David Heuvel, is sought after worldwide to build and rent costumes for companies. Their designs regularly appear in many other productions outside of Salt Lake City.” The Swan Lake costumes are a marvel of craftsmanship, and a labor of love as it takes hundreds of hours to produce each tutu.
Tickets for the Opportunity Drawing are available for a suggested $10 donation and will be available online at www.balletwest.org, and during each performance of Swan Lake. Drawing will be held on May 1, 2015, ticket holders are not required to be present to win.
