OUR COMMITMENT TO EQUALITY AND TRANSPARENCY

Dear Ballet West Family,

Yesterday, Ballet West participated in #BlackOutTuesday–a moment for our nation to pause, mourn, and to reflect on our commitment to create equity in this country, and in our community.

We stand steadfastly and in solidarity with our Black and Brown communities and with our artists, students, and staff of Color, today, tomorrow, and forever. We will double our efforts to fight all racism on our stage, in our studios, and on our streets.

We all must do what we can to effect change. For a ballet company, that means continuing to examine our hiring practices, analyzing the stories we tell and how we tell them on our stage, doing more to nurture and develop diverse young talent in our schools, and much more. We are holding a mirror to ourselves and examining how our art form–how Ballet West–can do better.

In the coming months, we will be transparent as to how we will dismantle systems that do not foster equity, and to institutionalize structures that do. We believe a more diverse and inclusive organization is a stronger Ballet West.

Thank you for joining us, thank you for being a part of the Ballet West Family.

Sincerely,

Adam Sklute                                        Michael Scolamiero
