Prestigious Kennedy Center tour adds notoriety for Company and brings acclaim for Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – December 16, 2014 – Ballet West returns to The Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre this week after five highly-acclaimed, sold out performances of The Nutcracker at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Washington Post’s Dance Critic, Sarah Kaufman said, “Ballet West’s Nutcracker is splurge-worthy,” and BrightestYoungThings said, “If you see one Nutcracker this season, make sure you take your family to this one.”

Ballet West is among the highest caliber ballet companies in the world to be invited to the Kennedy Center this season. The prestigious Mariinsky Ballet from Russia, New York City Ballet and the Scottish Ballet are also slated to perform this year. Regarding the limited engagement, Adam Sklute, Ballet West’s Artistic Director said, “It was a delight and an honor to perform on a world-stage, but I’m equally excited to return this treasured tradition to Salt Lake City for the holidays.”

The Nutcracker returns December 18 – 31 with 20 matinee and evening performances. Ticket sales have been very brisk and patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets soon to ensure they get desired seating. This year, Ballet West introduces The Ultimate Nutcracker Experience, an immersive opportunity that provides prime orchestra seating, an exclusive pre-show backstage tour and a gift bag. Premium seats are $125 each and are very limited.

Continuing a long tradition, the popular Sugar Plum Parties continue this year, allowing ticket holders to gather on-stage after the performance to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and other members of the cast. An experience children will never forget, Sugar Plum Parties include refreshments, a photo with the dancers and a special Nutcracker ornament.
