Witness the Future.

Experience the best of today’s new ballets that will become tomorrow’s favorites! Once again, audiences will see dancers and choreographers exploring their art form in intriguing and cutting-edge new creations.

This production features two world premieres: Galantheae, choreographed by Scottish Ballet Resident Choreographer Sophie Laplane, and Orange, choreographed by international rising star choreographer Juliano Nunes. Galantheae is an abstract meditation on the resilient snowdrop flower, the nature of which signifies the duality of strength and elegance also inherent in dance. Orange is a jubilant exploration of the experience of being alive, reflected in the joyful warmth and heat of the color orange.

Also on the program, Ballet West welcomes the world-renowned Dance Theatre of Harlem, performing Higher Ground (choreography by Robert Garland; music by Stevie Wonder), a reflection on the current times, and Balamouk (choreography by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa), which means “house of the insane” in Romanian and is an appropriately wild and raucous explosion of color.

Dance Theatre of Harlem is a dance institution of unparalleled global acclaim, encompassing a professional touring company, a leading studio school, and a national and international education and community outreach program. Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook, Dance Theatre of Harlem is considered “one of ballet’s most exciting undertakings” (The New York Times).

Sophie Laplane’s work has been seen around the globe, and has been called “gorgeously humanistic” by The Telegraph. Juliano Nunes has worked with choreographers such as William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon, and Jirí Kylián, and his work has been seen at Royal Ballet in London, Nederlands Dans Theater, Mariinsky Theatre, and others, as well as in the new Netflix series Tiny Pretty Things and on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
