About Katlyn Addison: 

Addison is currently a First Soloist with Ballet West where she has danced since 2011. Born in Ontario, Canada, Katlyn started her training at the age of ten with the National Ballet School of Canada and continued her training with, Quinte Ballet, Houston Ballet II, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Houston Ballet Ben Stevenson Academy. She has danced classical, neoclassical, contemporary and George Balanchine works throughout her career.

In 2008, she was awarded the Sarah Chapin Langham Award at Youth America Grand Prix and was invited to perform at the prestigious YAGP Gala the same year. In 2017 Katlyn also danced and acted in Miu Miu “Woman’s Tales,” a short film that premiered at the Venice Film Festival and the Prada Miu Miu website. In 2015 Huffington Post named her as one of the top “26 black female dancers you should know ”, and have been regularly featured throughout the years in Pointe and Dance Magazine. Katlyn performed in the United Nation 2019 annual conference in the Way of Rain/ Earth Movement as Mother Earth. Throughout the fall and winter of 2019-2020, Katlyn performed the Principal/Soloist roles at the Scottish Ballet in Glasgow Scotland, Tituba in Helen Pickettes, The Crucible and Snow Queen choreographed by Christopher Hampson the Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet.

Katlyn repertoire includes adaptations from Artistic Director of Ballet West, Adam Sklute’s, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle; George Balanchine’s Prodigal Son, Jewels, Four Temperaments; Williams Forsythe’s, In the Middle, and Somewhat Elevated; JIri Kylians, Petite Mort, Return of the Strange land, Falling Angels; Ben Stevenson’s, Dracula, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, and many other ballets. Katlyn also performed in several World Premieres Ballets, such as Christopher Bruce’s Grinning In Your Face; Stanton Welch’s, Medieval Babes; Val Caniparoli’s The Lottery and Dance for Lou; Nicolo Fonte’s Rite of Spring and Carmina Burna; Africa Guzman’s Sweet and Bitter; as well as several contemporary ballets with many renowned choreographers, Kenneth Oberly, Jiri Kylian, Christopher Wheeldon, and Mark Morris.

Katlyn was granted commissions to choreograph new works for; Ballet West Choreographic Festival in 2015 and 2018, “The Hunt” and “Hidden Voices”; Utah’s Arts Festival in 2019; University of Utah 2020; Ballet West Academy for YAGP individual Solos; AVA Ballet Theater; Artemotion Adult Summer Program and Dance Tech.
