CLARA Costume Information

Information is Subject to Change

Your call time is one hour before performance time.

Performance Costume:  All costume pieces are numbered.  Costume numbers are assigned at your costume fitting.  You will wear the same costume for all of your performances.

Performance Hairstyle: Please come to the costume fitting wearing a Medium Ballet bun with small curls around the forehead.  An additional set of curls will be worn for both acts.  Ballet West will supply this hairpiece. The Ballet West Wig Master will approve each Clara’s Hairstyle. Photo examples are below.

Performance Makeup:  All performance makeup must be applied prior to dancers entering the theater for dress rehearsals and performances.  Parents will be responsible for doing their own dancer’s makeup.  Below is the list of makeup required for Ballet West Nutcracker.  Dancers are allowed to use comparable brands, but the color must be the same.  Please reference the above photos for makeup.

  • Foundation
  • Ben Nye: Eye Shadow Taupe (ES-34)
  • Ben Nye: Victorian Rose Cheek (DR-61)
  • Ben Nye: Pen Eye Liner – Black Ink (PEL-1)
  • Ben Nye: Red Lip Liner
  • Ben Nye: Red Lip Stick
  • Black or Brown Brow Pencil
  • Black Mascara – dancer will provide their own

Performance Shoes: Two pairs of pink canvas ballet slippers are required.  For Act 1, Clara wears regular normal pink canvas ballet shoes with pink elastic.  For Act 2, Clara wears flesh tone canvas ballet shoes with ribbons, except for those dancers that have approval from the Artistic Director to wear pointe shoes. Pointe shoes must be submitted in for dying by Ballet West’s Shoe Manager. Shoes can be broken in but ribbons & elastics must be removed, and NO jet glue should be used. If shoes are not handed in correctly they will be returned. Your shoes must be “performance ready”.  That means the elastics and ribbons are neatly sewn on and that your shoes are clean.  The Student Ballet Master will demonstrate how to sew the ribbons onto your shoes, and how to tie the ribbons.  Ballet West will supply the ribbons and elastics for the Act 2 technique or pointe shoes.  Remember two pairs of shoes are required in your dance bag, but only one pair of performance ribbons will be distributed. One pair can be an old pair.

Please Note:  The wardrobe department does not repair shoes.

Performance Tights and Leotard:  Ballet pink colored tights with a center back seam.  Ballet West prefers, Bodywrappers #C45 (girls) or #A45 (ladies) in Theatrical Pink.  No 100% Lycra Tights. A flesh tone camisole style leotard with flesh tone or clear elastic straps is required. For Act 2, a flesh tone tights color will be assigned at fittings. The style is Capezio Ultra Soft Transition Tights 1916C. You need to purchase 2 pairs of these tights, color assigned at the fitting.
