Short Film Contest

Ballet West is pleased to announce that Max Clark is the winner of the 2nd Annual Short Film Contest!

Though we have no age restrictions in our contest, all but one of the entrants this year were adults.  This young, promising film maker, Max Clark (11 years of age) wrote and directed the film awarded Best of Show.  The Claymation film takes place in a mad scientist’s laboratory where newly created dancers explore their craft.  Our panel of 5 judges, from local dance and film communities, unanimously picked it as the champion submission.  They were impressed with its unique blend of playful creativity and seeming commentary on the transitory nature of a living art such as dance.  They also gave a nod to its clever musicality.  A Brave New World of Ballet’s premier screening was at The Tower Theatre on Open Mic Night August 27th.  Honorable Mention Awards went to Sahrab Mirmontazeri for Virgin and Rand Sieger for Tempest.

Ballet West would like to thank The Salt Lake Film Society and Open Mic Night for their collaborative efforts.  We would also like to thank everyone who submitted.  We appreciate their creativity and hard work and look forward to more extraordinary films next year!
